KOSMOS is one of the capital’s most distinctive event venues. Opened in 1961 as the GDR’s most modern cinema, it embodied progress and a spirit of new beginnings from the very start. Its architectural design was inspired by the "Space Race" of that era—to this day, the distinctive interior lights are reminiscent of the thrusters on a space shuttle.
Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, the heritage-listed building was converted into the first multiplex cinema in the new federal states and has since 2005 been further developed into a modern congress and event center. With 3,200 m² of usable space, ten versatile halls, and state-of-the-art lighting, audio, and video technology, KOSMOS offers ideal conditions for scientific conferences, discussions, and gatherings.
Its central location in Berlin, excellent transport links, in-house catering, and an underground car park with 200 spaces make KOSMOS an ideal host for the 2027 German-Austrian AIDS Congress—a venue where history meets the future, and where exchange, knowledge transfer, and community take center stage.

More informationOur goal is to conduct all DÖAK 2027 activities with sustainability in mind and to evaluate them accordingly. Congress planning is based on the Federal Government’s guidelines for the sustainable organization of events. The assessment of all sustainability measures serves to monitor success, drive further development, and avoid unnecessary CO2 emissions at future congresses.
Measures for DÖAK 2027
CO2 offsetting
Together, we aim to fundamentally avoid CO2 emissions and their equivalents. Any emissions that occur despite our careful approach, or that are currently unavoidable, are offset based on our CO2 calculations.
Information on the selected offset project will follow shortly.
